Youth Movement |
|

100 Black Men created Youth Movement to educate and impact communities impacted
by the childhood obesity epidemic. The program helps kids make healthier
lifestyle choices while educating and involving parents and communities. Youth
Movement teaches youth ways to achieve a healthy weight through energy
balance–calories in and calories out.

“We teach kids about energy balance – calories in, calories out - but
reductions in recess and PE means they don’t have a structured outlet to burn
off those calories. We provide that outlet along with nutritional education. We
start in the fall measuring body mass index (BMI) and testing each student’s
aerobic capacity. Typically only 25% of students meet national standards. The
100’s Youth Movement is changing those numbers, improving athletic performance
and teaching life skills.”

Partner
“Among the many crises facing youth today is the lack of fitness and healthy
food choices. I am excited about the Youth Movement and the collaborations that
will grow out of this movement. As we change attitudes, beliefs and behaviors
about exercise and nutrition today, we absolutely impact future generations.”
